Dr. Alberto “Alan” Roa earned his Pre-Dental Certificate from the University of the Philippines Diliman (UP), Quezon City in 1979 and Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the College of Dentistry of UP Manila in 1983. Then, between 2005 and 2006, he took up 24 units of an M.A. in Educational Management at the National University, Manila.

To hone his skills further, Dr. Roa completed several courses: Core-Vent Implantology Post Graduate Instruction in New York in 1988 and Esthetic Dentistry Update by Dr. Norman Feigenbaum in Manila in 1994, aside from participating in a variety of workshops and seminars on different fields of dentistry. He attended most of the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) Annual Conventions since 1984, numerous local seminars and workshops, including the Philippine Academy of Esthetic Dentistry’s (PAED) Workshop in Hong Kong in 2004, American Dental Association and Federacion Dentarie Internacionale (ADA-FDI), Joint Conventions in Washington D.C. in 1989 and in Orlando Florida in 1992 and the American Dental Association (ADA) Annual Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2006.

Dr. Roa also took part in the Asia-Pacific Dental Students Association (APDSA) Convention in Manila (Chairman Socials Committee) in 1980, in Singapore (Philippine Delegate) in 1982 and in Bangkok (Philippine Delegate) in 1983. He was awarded 1st Runner Up for his Student Research Paper Presentation Asian-Pacific Dental Student Association (APDSA) Convention in Singapore in 1982.

Dr. Roa’s current professional affiliations include Member, Philippine Dental Association (PDA) since 1984, Affiliate Member, American Dental Association (ADA) from 1985 to 2010, Member, Quezon City Dental Society Inc. (QCDS) since 1990, Life Member, Philippine Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (PAED) – of which he was a Founding Member and Vice President from 1996 to 1998 and its 2nd President from 1998 to 2000 – since 2000, Life Member, UP Alumni Association (UPAA) and Member, UP Dental Alumni.

Imparting knowledge and training is one of the ways that Dr. Roa has chosen to give back to his profession and society. In between his practice, membership duties and attending conferences, he is currently Principal Lecturer of the Dental Enhancement Programs (DEP), an 18-Module Hands-On Workshop, since 2000, Lecturer of the Grouped Workshop: Esthetic Dentistry Training Program (EDTP), composed of 17 Modules Total which can be grouped: A. Esthetic Express 4 Modules, B. Endo 101 to 102 Workshop 2 to 3 Modules, and C. Practice Management 4 Modules or as the Demand arises, Program Developer of PAED’s “Esthetic Dentistry 101 (PAED 101), a 10-Day, Hands-On, Workshop, which he served as Course Coordinator in 1999 and 2001, Lecturer at the College of Dentistry, National University from 2005 to 2008 and National Lecturer at the College of Oral Implantology of the Philippines in 1999. He started the In-Clinic Hands-On Workshops on Intra-Oral Photography, RCT Made EZ and Cosmetic Dentistry for DECI in Bel-Air, Makati from 1995 to 1999.

He is a familiar face on the lecture circuit, addressing dental organizations and companies on topics comparing different dental materials, instruments and techniques since 1990.

For non-dental groups, he has delivered Dental Career Talks and touched on Diabetes and Dentistry, Avoiding Tooth Decay and Paper Recycling, etc.

Good with the pen as with his dental instruments, Dr. Roa has written extensively about dental issues and matters. Currently, he is Editor of the Dental Trading Post (DTP) e-Magazine (on Facebook) since 2012. An electronic version of the former DTP printed magazine in a new format. He was Editor/Owner of www.DTP-Online.com from 2003 to 2008, columnist behind Dental Consumerism in the Dental Post newsletter, Dental Trading Post magazine and www.dtp-online.com, Editor of the Dental Trading Post magazine from 1998 to 2001 and Associate Editor/Group Editor of the Dental Trading Post, the first Filipino dental publication by dentists from 1992 to 1998. He was Assistant Editor of the DDM Journal from 1992 to 1995 and Associate Editor of the Dental Post, official newsletter of the Quezon City Dental Society (QCDS) from 1990 to 1992.

Other achievements to Dr. Roa’s name include Director, Quezon City Dental Health Society (QCDHS) from 1996 to 1997, Dental Health Consultant of the Museo Pambata Foundation Inc. in 1996, Vice President of the QCDHS from 1995 to 1996, Lecturer in the PDA’s Speakers’ Bureau in 1995 for Cosmetic Dentistry, Chairman of the 1st DTP Dental Expo at MegaMall to mark Oral Health Year in 1995

Dr. Roa has been in private general practice for the past 35 years, specializing in Esthetic Dentistry, Endodontics and Total Restorative Dentistry. He is also a visiting consultant in a number of private clinics. He served as the On-Line Dental Consultant of www.mydentista.com from 2001 to 2003.
