- Is a graduate of the UE College of Dentistry in 1975. He was a Cum Laude graduate, a college scholar and the recipient of International College of Dentist GOLD MEDAL FOR Academic and Clinical excellence. He placed second in the 1975 Dental Board Examination.
- In the Academe:
Dr Valera was the Head of Pediatric-Orthodontics and Restorative Dentistry Departments of UE College of Dentistry. A past president of the UE Dental Faculty and Editor of the UE Dentistry Journal.

- In organized Dentistry, Dr Valera was the founding President of Phil. Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. His other interests in Dentistry is Orthodontics, where he was the founding President of the Phil. Society for Orthodontics, Inc., an incorporator and founding member of the International Association for Orthodontics – Philippine Section Inc.and the Filipino Orthodontics Study Club, an affiliate of International Association for Orthodontics. He was the past International Coordinator for the Philippines of the International Association for Orthodontics, USA( IAO, USA), and the former President of the International Association for Orthodontics – Phil. Section(IAO- Phil. Section) in 1991 -1992 and 2001-2024. He is at present a Master Senior Instructor of the IAO, and Lifetime Board Diplomate .

Civic consciousness of Dr. Valera is exemplified by him being the charter President of Rotary Club of Sampaloc, Manila where he started as a charter member in 1985 a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow and member of the philanthropic Paul Harris Foundation of Rotary International.

Awards given to our Speaker include :
a. Most Outstanding Teacher of UE in 1998
b. One of 75 Most Oustanding Alumnus of UE in 2021
c. Most Oustanding Alumnus Award given by UE Alumni USA in Las Vegas , 2022
d. Most Outstanding Alumnus ( High School) of Divine Woed College of Occidental Mindoro in 2024.

At present , Dr Valera is the President of the Milwaukee based Worldwide International Association for Orthodontics.
